A SPECIAL PLACE FOR SPECIAL VACATIONS

The area of Fajã dos Cubres and Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo is the top attraction of São Jorge island. Both fajãs are small rural villages unspoiled by human progress and surrounded by a dreamlike scenario of high green mountains of wild untouched nature with lagoons and waterfalls.

Proof of this are the various titles of Nature Conservation that the Faja entails, as Protected Landscape Area and Protected Area Resource Management at Island Natural Park; Special Area of Conservation; Natura 2000 Network and the lagoons of the Fajãs that are under the RAMSAR site. In order to see all these denominations click here.

It seems like time slows down here, there is no such thing as the rush you feel in most cities and places crowded by tourists. This is the perfect place to relax and be in contact with nature. Many people fall in love for this place and say it has something magic about it.

As for Fajã dos Cubres, the place is accessible by car with an asphalt road that sinuously makes it's way down the mountain. Like the famous Caldeira de Santo Cristo, Fajã dos Cubres is also a good for surfing, scuba diving and fishing.

Here you can also find a very nice typical restaurant very close to Casa da Arcada.

This area has a lot of natural wonders and experiences waiting to be discovered, you won't be able to feel how this place is special until you visit it. But if you are a nature lover, you'll have one of the best experiences of your lifetime. Garanteed!
